Never again will I let myself be fooled to attend my little sister's birthday party. Today she turned 11, and she celebrated by inviting three of her equally eccentric friends to go to the movies. Tonight, with my mother, I saw Arthur and the Invisibles, which received horrible reviews and lost me a good 20grand on the Hollywood Stock Exchange, a hobby I engage in daily. Regardless of reviews and it's stock depleting, I found it enjoyable. It had plenty of adult humor and the plot was decent. The major critique I had for it was that the director obviously tried to fit in too much dialogue in such a small time frame. The characters spoke ridiculously fast, and not but a beat later, another character would retort with an equally breathless response. The scenes would also be short and choppy, jumping between many characters doing important things all at the same time. It's as if the director just couldn't decide what to take out after all principal photography was done, so he just left it in.
Regardless Lemuel gives it 3 1/2 stars.
Not much else to write about right now, I'm going to get back to reading. I read the most fascinating article comparing 'Fight Club' to the comic strip 'Calvin and Hobbes'. Rather genious really, read here.
Added Sidenote:
The other day I illegally downloaded 'Pan's Labyrinth' because there was nowhere within a vicinity of 200 miles that was carrying this small, independent foreign flick. In Spanish with English subtitles, this movie proclaimed itself an 'adult fairy tale', and it was indeed that and more. It was dark and twisted, yet lovely. I loved it as much as 98% of Rotten Tomato critics did. And I beg you to watch it if you have the opportunity. I implore under an oath of our friendship that you at least watch this trailer for me.
